I know, I know, I’ve only known two doctors well. But I can rule out Matt Smith almost right away. Not that he doesn’t seem lovely, but too hipster for my liking.
David Tennant is beautiful and adorable and the cutest and my first doctor and I love him to death.
But my favourite doctor has to be this fellow:
I didn’t like him at first. He was much angrier than Ten.
But he grew so much in such a short time. I felt like I knew him. I came to understand why he was the way he was. I could guess what was going through his mind when he acted.
He was mature in so many ways that are lost in Ten and Eleven. Not that I don’t love their bubbly joy. But I actually believed that Nine was nine hundred years old. That he’d had a full lifetime with both pain and happiness and that he was a deeply complex character with a lot of growth behind him and a whole lot more to go.
And I kind of loved the way he loved Rose - more passionately and yet more quietly than Ten. He was angry with her often, not because he didn’t like her, but because, like all honest relationships, their emotions and beliefs came into conflict on a regular basis. He had to learn how to love her in a way that respected her, and he rose to the challenge.
I miss him. I miss his quiet authority. I miss his simple smile. I miss the way he looked at the world.
Eccleston is definitely my favourite.
